Epson error 0x97 is a general internal hardware error — the printer has detected a fault with an internal component (commonly the main board or print head) and stops working, often suddenly.
Canon support code 5B00 (and 5B01) means the printer’s internal waste-ink absorber is full, so the printer stops to prevent waste ink from overflowing.
An HP LaserJet "49" error is a firmware communication error — the printer received data or a command its firmware couldn’t process, so it halted. It is usually recoverable.
